Eskiminzin
(1837-1920)
Chief of the Aravaipa Apaches of south-central
Arizona, Eskiminzin made a treaty with Lieutenant Royal Whitman to allow his
people to stay near Camp Grant instead of relocating to the main Apache reservation
in the White Mountains. The anglo and hispanic citizens of nearby Tucson blamed
Eskiminzin's band for a series of livestock raids, and organized a vigilante
force which resulted in the Camp
Grant Massacre.
