Oury, William S.
(1816-1886)

Born in Virginia, Oury fought with Sam Houston in the Mexican War. He went West for 1849 gold rush, and ended up in Tucson by 1856 and engaged in stock raising and trading. As that city's leader of the Committee of Public Safety, Oury helped organize and participated in the Camp Grant Massacre.

After a trial with other participants in the massacre, Oury was acquitted and he later became the first President of the Pioneers' Society at Tucson.
